We Have Developed Curriculum for …

Life Lab developed a Scope and Sequence for Chef Emeril Lagasse’s signature program, Emeril’s Culinary Garden & Teaching Kitchen. This Scope and Sequence detailed 162 lessons for grades K-8 designed to build an appreciation for the source of food; an understanding of nutrition and healthy eating; and develop life and culinary skills. Life Lab also developed and delivered a customized training on this signature program to each of the Emeril Lagasse Foundation’s partner schools.

FoodCorps

Sprouts Scouts
Life Lab served as a lead writer for FoodCorps’ Sprout Scouts program, a series of garden “journeys” designed for after-school and summer programs led by FoodCorps Service Members.

Lessons
Life Lab served as a Lead Curriculum Creation Advisor with FoodCorps, participating in weekly calls to generate ideas for, and subsequently review and revise, 96 K-5 lessons designed to connect kids to healthy food in school.

American Heart Association

Life Lab served as a lead writer for a School Garden Manual, 36 lessons, parent materials, and a New Garden Activation Kit for the American Heart Association’s Teaching Gardens program.

Kiss The Ground

Life Lab served as a lead writer for Kiss the Ground’s Soil Story Curriculum, a series of 5 middle school lessons focused on the carbon cycle, photosynthesis, soil science, various agricultural practices, and a regenerative soil-based project.

California School Garden Network

Life Lab developed all web content for www.csgn.org/steps and served on the content creation team for Gardens for Learning – Creating and Sustaining Your School Garden a free publication that was distributed in hard copy to over 10,000 educators.

California Department of Education

Getting Started
Life Lab served as a lead author for Getting Started: A guide for creating school gardens as outdoor classrooms. This project was part of the California Department of Education’s “garden in every school” program. 

California School Garden Training Program
In partnership with UC Davis and the Resource Conservation District of San Diego Life Lab co-authored the Creating and Sustaining Your School Garden and the Garden-Enhanced Nutrition Education instructional materials. Additionally we created train the trainer materials, videos, and ran statewide trainings for thousands of educators.

Univeristy of California Global Food Initiative

Life Lab, along with the University of California at Berkeley and at Davis, created Engaging University Students in Local School Gardens: A Toolkit for School Districts, School Garden Support Organizations and Universities.

Grow Book

Life Lab served as a lead writer for the GrowBook home engagement guide and the Classroom Guide for lower and upper elementary grades. Both guides include 4 activities and lab pages.

Become a Life Lab Certified Gardener! 🌱🌻Based on the success of our first four cohorts of Life Lab-Certified Garden Educators, we are excited to announce that registration is now open for individuals to register and be part of our fifth cohort starting January 23rd, 2023! We’ve put together a series of 4 on-line courses that will guide and support educators in becoming a Life Lab-Certified School Garden Educator. Upon successful completion of the 4 courses, participants will receive a certificate and the distinction of being a Life Lab-Certified Garden Educator. Each course will last 4 weeks long and include 4 synchronous meetings, at-home work, and a unique coaching model. The total commitment for the full series is 16 weeks. There are 24 spots available and we sold out in our last 4 certification series.
