"Feeding 2 Birds With 1 Seed"
At each Life Lab Garden Classroom Field Trip we are feeding the minds of visiting school children while at the same time training future environmental educators.
These children are on a Sowing the Seeds of Wonder field trip with their kindergarten classmates this month. In one outing, they learned about where food comes from (like eggs from chickens!), sowed seeds in cups to take back to their school and observe, and explored the wonders of soil.
Jesse, their guide (holding PopStar, the Polish Crested chicken), is one of 45 college interns that we train and mentor each year to cultivate children's love of learning, healthy food, and nature through garden-based education. Many are inspired to go on to careers in outdoor experiential education after their experience here.
This month, we're concluding a school year that has brought 2,949 students in 120 classes from 46 schools to our Garden Classroom for inspiring seasonal field trips like this one!
