Teaching teachers to use gardens as classrooms

August was a packed month for our educator training programs! Gearing up for the new school year, teachers turned to Life Lab for training and inspiration in garden-based learning. Pictured here, first-year Education Outside corps members learn a hands-on flower anatomy lesson during a two-day training at our Garden Classroom that helped them prepare to teach more than 10,000 students in San Francisco public schools this year.

We hosted 30 educators for a two-day Growing Classroom workshop to start the month, and then we trained 50 more in workshops in Half Moon Bay, Napa, and Fairfield. Whitney and John spent a week in Portland training 200 FoodCorps service members from 17 states for a year of hands-on garden-based education with more than 100,000 students. We ended the month by welcoming 15 university students from Japan for a week-long institute.

We love sharing our 36 years of experience bringing learning to life in gardens! Through teacher training and curriculum, Life Lab will positively impact the lives and learning of more than 200,000 children this year.
